Our Environmental Policy

Zeta recognises that it can contribute towards the conservation and protection of the environment. The company has resolved to improve its own environmental practices and to promote awareness of environmental responsibilities among all staff whether permanent of temporary.
This is to be achieved through the following policy aims and objectives.

Aims

1. To improve awareness and understanding of environmental issues and sustainable development within the company .
2. To encourage all staff to be active participants in environmental initiatives.
3. To improve the way the company manages its own environments.
4. To promote sustainable ecological awareness throughout the company.
5. To support research, consultancy and project work addressing sustainable development by staff. 6. To ensure involvement and liaison with appropriate sustainable development organisations.
7. To work with the local community, public and private sector organisations to improve the local environment and promote sustainable development.

Objectives

1. Environmental Awareness

a. To promote the concept of sustainable development and individual accountability amongst staff
b. To conserve resources through a company-wide awareness programme.
c. To provide opportunities for staff training in environmental matters both in-house or through attendance at seminars, courses and working parties.
d. To organise and/or support environmental awareness-raising events.
e. To provide an easily accessible environmental and ecological resources collection
f. To provide training on power saving with computers, copiers etc.

2. Environmental Initiatives

a. To establish environmental management procedures among staff with managerial or operational responsibilities for activities that affect the company’s impact on the environment.
b. To encourage staff suggestions on ways to improve practices which impact on the environment. c. To identify specific responsibilities within job descriptions and contracts, which will support the company’s Environmental Policy.
d. To support the Company’s environmental groups.

3. Environmental Management

Overview

To develop environmental responsibility indicators for both institutional and academic practice, including strategies for implementing the company’s environmental policy.

Energy and Water

To conserve energy by progressively improving heating and lighting systems, and investing in energy efficient copiers, IT and electrical equipment.
To conserve water by gradually installing water saving devices as and where appropriate.
To encourage, where possible, the use of alternative energy and water resources.

Buildings and Grounds

To encourage the implementation of the recommendations from the Environmental Policy Working Group regarding organisation.
To ensure that all building work undertaken has the concept of environmental responsibility as a central issue within the working brief.

Waste Management

To implement a comprehensive waste management policy.
To use best current practice for handling hazardous waste.
To encourage a change in the perception of waste within the company.

Recycling

To raise awareness and encourage use of Goldsmith’s ‘A-Z of Recycling and Waste.
To provide means of collecting waste products which can be recycled - batteries, books, cans, furniture, glass, laser/copier paper, some types of plastic.
Focus on email communication.
Mugs and glasses are provided to avoid the use of polystyrene and plastic cups.
Staff are encouraged to avoid wasteful printing.

Purchasing and Contracts

To encourage purchasing from environmentally friendly suppliers.
To include sustainable requirements in new contracts.
To avoid the use of wood or animal products from non-replenishable sources.

Transport

To encourage car sharing.
To provide secure bike lock-ups and to encourage cycling through improved shower and changing facilities.
To promote the use of public transport.
To reduce the number of staff driving to the office.
To support flexible working arrangements to reduce the need to travel.

4. Environmental Education

To review all sustainable development initiatives in the Company.
To develop an up-to-date, easily accessible, sustainable development resource.

5. Research and Project Work

To identify and promote opportunities for furthering sustainable development, environmental research and activities for staff.
To encourage and acknowledge staff projects and initiatives.
To strengthen expertise that could result in consultancies and participation in relevant initiatives.

6. Networking

To develop a dialogue with local and national environmental agencies and groups.
To establish environmental links with community organisations.
To establish links with companies, NGO’s, all levels of Government and other appropriate organisations that help promote a sustainability agenda, in the local community.
To identify organisations, companies and publishers which provide environmental information and/or advice on good practice.

7. Local Environmental Improvements

To seek to influence and support regeneration initiatives in the local area.
